A community united in preventing substance misuse among Taos youth by providing information, empowerment services and community support.
Taos Alive Coalition strives to unite the community by planning and implementing strategies that prevent and reduce substance use and its consequences among Taos County youth.
Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, public and private non-profit agencies; as well as federal, state, local, and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among Taos County youth.
Reduce substance use among youth and, over time, reduce substance abuse among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
It takes a whole community to create lasting change
Taos Alive Coalition wouldn't exist if it weren't for all the individuals and organizations that collaborate with us to create a drug free community.
What We are Currently Doing...
Taos Alive is a Coalition focusing on reducing substance misuse in Taos County.
We are a small AND MIGHTY team of five incredibly dedicated and passionate staff members. Our drug misuse prevention efforts are initially funded from the Drug Free Communities grant. We are grateful to be able to continue our prevention efforts with funding from CARA, NMDOH, and HIDTA. HIDTA funds a couple of our efforts; in school prevention teaching Botvin lifeskills, and our YES program that links Taos youth with community opportunities in employment and local services.
A really important component of our prevention efforts is coordinating workgroups that target substances directly effecting Taos County. Work Groups are the action teams of Taos Alive committed to implementing the strategies defined by the coalition. Each group creates their own initiatives determined by community needs in that specific topic.
